What is Lunar Golf?

Lunar Golf is golf played at night time with glow in the dark golf balls and hundreds of LED lights to guide you around the course. It is a super way to play a round with friends. It creates a fun and a very engaging game.

The course is lined with 700 LED lights. Blue lights are used to line the fairways, green lights are used to outline the greens and pink lights mark the water hazards and bunkers. The flag poles are fully illuminated and LED candlelit lanterns are used for tee box markers. Loud speakers with music and disco lights are placed on the course to help participants enjoy a relaxed and fun atmosphere.

About the game:

We played a mixed scramble format with our group making it great craic. The team captain is presented with a group pack of one score card, a list of rules, along with reflective high-vis vests and a wearable head torch for each player to wear. Along with a selection of LED Glow in the dark balls. The balls are so cool to play with, they're slightly heavier than your normal ball so you will need to consider that when making your club selection.

About the organisers:

Lunar Golf company arrange these events all over Ireland at Golf Clubs as social, fundraisers or corporate gatherings. The event I attended last week was a part of the series of 'Chip & Chat' events by Golf Ireland at Leopardstown Golf Centre. These events are organised for ladies of all levels to come together and play golf whilst enjoying the social aspects of the game. On the night all attendees registered from 6pm and enjoyed some refreshments at Leopardstown Golf Centre. Also each golfer was gifted a fabulous goody bag from Golf Ireland. Shortly after the refreshments and chats we received a safety briefing before heading out to play our 9 holes. It was a shotgun start from 7pm-9pm and afterwards we all gathered again for hot refreshments and had more chats about the night. It was a great event and a memorable round of golf.

My top tips for playing Lunar Golf:

  1. Wrap up warm. Wear extra layers, wet gear, fleece or thermal gear is essential.

  2. Pack a flask, if possible bring some hot drinks for around the course.

  3. Bring some glow sticks, we wore these and also used them as ball markers for the scramble format.

  4. If you've a torch at home bring it, the extra light will help to read the greens.

  5. Wrap your golf bag with some outdoor lights, it looks pretty cool in the dark.

  6. Have fun and enjoy!
